Have you already booked your grouper fishing trip? Before you head out on the boat, there are a few things that you can do to improve your experience:

  1. Check Your Fishing Equipment: Double check your equipment the night before, to ensure that everything is in working order. It can be disappointing to get on the boat and then figure out that something is missing or broken! A quality check in advance can ensure that you have all of the gear that is needed for a fun day. If you don’t have the right equipment, then you can talk to your Captain to find out about equipment rentals.
  2. Bring Food and Water: Stop at the grocery store to pick up a few drinks and water bottles. It can also be helpful to bring lunch and snacks. Here at Flats Chance Charters, we don’t provide food on board. But, we encourage our customers to bring anything that they want to enjoy on the boat. You can kick back and relax with a cold drink in hand.
  3. Take Care of Your Health: There are several items that can be beneficial to care for your health. You will be spending a lot of time in the sun, so it is a good idea to bring a hat and sunglasses to cover up. Sunscreen application is essential throughout the day. If you aren’t used to the strong Florida sun, then you need to protect your skin from sunburn! Also, bring some motion sickness medication if you often get seasick on the water. If we are on the open water for the Homosassa grouper fishing trip, then you can expect the waves to rock the boat. Medication can be an important way to prevent sickness.
  4. Book Your Trip in Advance: If you show up in Florida during the busy season, it can be difficult to book a last-minute charter for a fishing trip. Instead of waiting to see if anything is available, you need to be proactive to book the guide that you want to have on your trip. By planning in advance, you can make a few adjustments based on the availability of your guide.
